The Republic of Malta is a small but heavily populated island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean . Consisting of 7 islands it is a popular tourist resort due to its tropical climate, exciting nightlife, and a history dating back thousands of years.
The educational system in Malta is divided into three main branches: Primary Education, which extends from age five till eleven , Secondary Education which stretches from age eleven till sixteen, and Tertiary Education. We have one University, recognized by major foreign Universities. Education is compulsory from age five till sixteen. Parents can opt to send their children to State, Church or Private Schools. The Maltese Educational System is based on the British model. Major changes are currently undergoing the Maltese Educational System. In 1996, computers started to be installed in the Primary School classrooms. A new National Curriculum was drawn and implemented between 2000 and 2001. |
